The American foreign policy strategy announced by the Donald Trump administration caused a storm among experts. In the document, which in the opinion of many is more of an ideological manifesto than a coherent doctrine, the United States clearly signals: the priority is the Western hemisphere, and Europe, including Poland, is to play a supporting role.
In the latest episode of the “International Report” podcast, Witold Jurasz and Zbigniew Parafianowicz analyze the consequences of this strategy.
In their opinion, contrary to the narrative of “realism”, the document does not fit into any classical school of foreign policy. — In realism, alliances are not weakened and opponents are not strengthened. Meanwhile, Trump announces his withdrawal from Europe and negotiations with Russia, Jurasz emphasizes.
The strategy points to the growing importance of competition with China in areas such as artificial intelligence, biotechnology and cybersecurity. This means huge costs and a shift of US attention to the Pacific. In this system, Europe appears as a “museum”, and Poland, according to the authors of the podcast, can be perceived as a “Trojan horse” in the European Union.
