“Doctors are also sick and doctors die… A 48-year-old surgeon died right while he was in a consultation with a patient. The tragedy took place at the “St. Stefan” City Hospital in Rovinari.
The representatives of the hospital, contacted by the CMR representatives, stated that there are currently 24 doctors in the hospital who serve a population of approximately 60 thousand inhabitants. The doctor was known to have cardiovascular problems,” representatives of the Romanian College of Physicians sent on Wednesday evening on the Facebook page.
According to them, the deceased doctor specialized in general surgery.
“Currently, there are only 2 doctors of general surgery left in the hospital, and the medical director of the unit stated that at the City Hospital in Rovinari there is currently only one doctor in most medical specialties, which implies an extremely high workload”CMR representatives also sent.
The president of the College of Doctors, Cătălina Poiană, drew attention to the fact that such tragedies happen too often.
“Too often these tragedies. We do not know the cause of death, but we are talking about a doctor of only 48 years, we understood that he was ill. Our thoughts go to the family and colleagues, to whom we send our condolences.”
Poiana also sent a message to the authorities: “You have the levers and the decisions and we ask you to consider it a priority in identifying solutions and opportunities to provide conditions for doctors to practice in areas that are not large university centers or large cities. Patients need medical services in all regions of the country. And medical colleagues need a correct program to limit cases of burnout”.
We remind you that the surgeon Ovidiu Bogdan Cîrstina, aged 48, died while consulting a patient.
He was resuscitated by his colleagues for an hour, but to no avail. At one point he felt sick and collapsed. Despite the efforts of his colleagues, he could not be saved. The surgeon suffered a cardiac arrest.
