Unusual situation tomorrow night in the Champions League. In Milan and Bergamo, separated by about 60 kilometers, the Inter – Liverpool and Atalanta – Chelsea matches will be played, and the Town Halls of the two Lombard cities have introduced severe restrictions on the sale of alcoholic beverages for English fans: 7,000 in total!
The two Premier League rivals play Inter and Atalanta on Tuesday, a truly unique situation. 5,600 Liverpool fans will go to the match in Milan
Liverpool and Chelsea fans will meet Linate, Malpensa (from Milan) and Orio al Serio (Bergamo). The Champions League schedule opted for coincidences: Tuesday, December 9, Arne Slot's team and Enzo Maresca's team will play in Milan and Bergamo with Inter and Atalanta. So the antagonistic groups of English fans will walk around a perimeter of about 60 kilometers.
Gazzetta dello Sport recalled that the “cormorants” fans visited Italy several times: three times in Naples, twice in Bergamo, once in Rome and now again in Milan, but this time for the duel with Inter.
On “Giuseppe Meazza”, which will register receipts of over 10 million euros, 4,300 supporters dressed in red shirts will be present. Claudio Sgaraglia, prefect of Milan, took precautionary measures to maintain public order: “A ban was imposed on the serving and sale of alcoholic beverages and spirits, as well as the sale of take-away drinks in glass containers and cans, both in fixed and mobile stores, without hindering the usual consumption with table service”.
The ban will be in effect between 8am and midnight on December 9 in the Centro, Navigli, Darsena, Sempione and Corso Como areas. The ban will also apply between 12:00 and 24:00 in the stadium area.
1,300 Chelsea fans will go to the match in Bergamo
A similar safety measure was taken by the municipality of Bergamo. 1,300 Chelsea fans will arrive at the “New Balance Arena”. From Tuesday at 9 a.m. until Wednesday at 6 a.m., the sale of takeaway drinks with an alcohol content of more than 5% will be prohibited.
The ban extends to all products in bottles or cans. The measure affects bars, restaurants, private clubs, grocery stores, craft workshops and vending machines.
The only exception is for establishments that offer catering services, where alcohol can only be served if it is consumed immediately at the table. The area includes the historic center of the Upper Town, including the perimeter around the Venetian Walls, and extends to numerous main streets in the Lower Town.
