Ukraine will need billions
The President of Ukraine stated that US President Donald Trump is determined to end the Russia-Ukraine war and highly appreciated the efforts of his son-in-law Jared Kushner in the US negotiating group.
According to Zelensky, Ukraine needs about $800 million to buy American weapons, which it planned to acquire this year with the help of European allies. He repeated that next year Kyiv will need about $15 billion. for the PURL program, which involves the purchase of American weapons with European money.
Zelensky is of the opinion that China does not seek to end the Russian-Ukrainian war. “Of course, China is a strong country, a strong economy, and most importantly in our case – the influence that China has on Russia and personally on Putin. However, with all respect for the Chinese people, history and culture, I must honestly say that I do not see that ending this war would be beneficial for China,” he explained.
According to the Ukrainian leader, China is not profitable today if Russia is weak or defeated, because – as he noted – the new American security doctrine clearly contrasts two large countries and economies.
The president announced that he would go to Italy on Tuesday to meet Prime Minister Giorgia Meloni. He also announced a large meeting of the coalition of the willing this week.
On Monday in London, Zelensky held talks with British Prime Minister Keir Starmer, French President Emmanuel Macron and German Chancellor Friedrich Merz. Then, in the evening, the Ukrainian leader visited Brussels to meet with the head of the European Commission Ursula von der Leyen, the President of the European Council Antonio Costa and NATO Secretary General Mark Rutte. The topic of all of Zelensky's talks are the US efforts to reach a peace agreement in Russia's war with Ukraine.
