Treatments suspended in Kielce. Świętokrzyskie hospitals under financial pressure


At the beginning of December, the Provincial Hospital in Kielce announced the suspension of planned procedures until the end of 2025. JAs informed by director Marcin Martyniak, the restrictions apply to 11 of the 75 hospital units, which affected nearly 300 patients. According to data from the National Health Fund, the financial arrears of this facility amount to PLN 23 million.

Martyniak emphasized that the decision to suspend the treatments was preceded by a detailed financial analysis and attempts to maintain liquidity. As he emphasized, the problem results from systemic shortcomings, not from management errors.
The director added that the hospital is ready to resume normal operation if the funds resulting from the amendment to the Medical Fund Act, providing for the transfer of an additional PLN 3.6 billion to the National Health Fund, are transferred.
Hospitals in Świętokrzyskie are struggling with financial problems
The Świętokrzyskie Oncology Center is struggling with overperformance of PLN 47 million, of which PLN 27 million is the lack of payments for chemotherapy drugs. The facility's deputy director, Małgorzata Kiebzak, informed that despite large liabilities to suppliers, patients are still admitted. However, the hospital had to pay over PLN 1 million in interest for late payments.

At the Provincial Specialist Hospital in Czerwona Góra, the missing funds amount to PLN 20 million. Director Youssef Sleiman said that due to debt, arthroplasty procedures were limited and operations for 78 patients were postponed for another year.
“Patients are being scheduled for March 2027 even though the facility has treatment capacity,” Sleiman said.
The Świętokrzyskie Psychiatric Center in Morawica reports overperformance of over PLN 800,000. zloty. Director Piotr Kiełbowski pointed to the problem of insufficient valuation of services, especially in the area of psychogeriatrics, which is more expensive than general psychiatry.

In turn, the Świętokrzyskie Rehabilitation Center in Czarniecka Góra recorded overperformance of PLN 1 million. Director Mariusz Gil pointed out that the current rate of PLN 281 per person-day does not cover the actual costs, including medical care, diagnostics and surgical procedures.

On Friday, President Karol Nawrocki signed an amendment to the Medical Fund Act, which is to enable the transfer of approximately PLN 3.6 billion to the National Health Fund in 2025. These funds are intended to partially alleviate the financial problems of hospitals.
Meanwhile, the National Health Fund's deficit for next year is estimated at approximately PLN 23 billion, and the health care budget for 2026 envisages expenses of PLN 247.8 billion.
