Sellers on Vinted have been complaining about mass account blockades that have been going on for several weeks. The website admits that such activities take place, explaining them as a fight against commercial activities that are not allowed there, reports Wyborcza.biz. Users suspect that Vinted's strict policy is related to customer reports and DAC7 reports submitted to tax offices.

Problems with access to accounts on Vinted began to intensify in the last days of January, and became even more severe in February. According to information from the Wyborcza.biz website, entries from people whose accounts have been blocked appear every day on groups associating sellers. Some users had their ads deleted (up to 146 items), others were blocked from listing items for sale.

Vinted fights against commercial sales

The reason for this phenomenon turns out to be quite simple: fighting against commercial sales, which are prohibited on Vinted.

Per our directory policies, commercial sales are not permitted on Vinted. Therefore, if we detect commercial activity conducted by Vinted users, we can hide or remove offers and block accounts – replies Magdalena Szlaz from Vinted's PR department, quoted by Wyborcza.biz.

According to the regulations, Vinted considers any form of sales that is aimed at generating regular income as commercial activitywhich is verified not only by the number of completed orders, but also by the total amount of revenue generated. The website responds to every irregularity, a Handicraft traders in particular have to take into account the consequences. Although Vinted declares in its regulations that it values creativity, it also indicates that the sale of products professionally made by the user or persons cooperating with him is a commercial activity.

Sellers complain about denunciations

Sellers on Vinted report:

  • Sudden time blocks, usually imposed for a period of five to seven days, which are often only a precursor to permanent account deletion.
  • Mass removal of offers containing keywords such as “wholesale”, “all sizes available” or “store”, which the system interprets as evidence of commercial activity.

There is a growing belief among users that behind the wave of blockades is not only artificial intelligence, but also reports from buyers. Sellers write that a few malicious reports from third parties are enough – often in response to a refusal to reduce the price or failure to answer questions – for an account to be subject to strict verification. There are voices that the atmosphere on the platform is becoming worse and worse, and the fear of denunciations paralyzes many honest users who are afraid to list any items.

Owners of blocked accounts also look for reasons for: EU directive DAC7. Users believe that based on data from DAC7 reports submitted to tax offices about people who exceed the threshold of 30 transactions or EUR 2,000 in revenue per year on Vinted, the website can detect whether someone conducts commercial activities. In an interview with Wyborcza.biz, Vinted representatives deny that these regulations affect the blocking of accounts on the website, but do not specify what exact criteria they apply or how many users have been restricted.

Vinted not available to entrepreneurs

The biggest bone of contention remains the fact that Polish users who would like to legalize their trade on Vinted currently have their hands tied. Although the service operates in countries such as France, Italy and Great Britain Vinted Pro dedicated to commercial sellers, this option is still unavailable in Poland. This puts small entrepreneurs in an impossible situation – some take risks by opening new accounts for new IPs or buying back proven ones, but others will be forced to move to other platforms and pay sales commissions.
