A man in Auckland, New Zealand, tried to steal a precious egg-shaped pendant from a jeweler, swallowing nearly $20,000 worth of it. dollars gem. After a few days, the police announced that the piece of jewelry had been recovered, the BBC reported on Friday.

The pendant made by Faberge is decorated with 60 white diamonds and 15 sapphires. Inside there is a miniature stylized octopus made of 18-carat gold.

The trinket belongs to a limited series referring to the movie “Octopussy” about agent 007 James Bond. One of the plots of the 1983 production was the theft of a historic Faberge egg ordered by the Russian Tsar.

The gem “was recovered naturally”, “medical intervention was not necessary,” the police said.

Law enforcement officials said the man was under constant surveillance. – It is our duty to continue monitoring it, taking into account the circumstances of the incident – it was emphasized.

The court will deal with the perpetrator of the theft next week. The man will be responsible for swallowing a golden egg, stealing an iPad from the same jewelry store and taking cat litter and flea control from a private property.

The recovered gem will be returned to the manufacturer, New Zealand Radio reported.

The Faberge company, founded 200 years ago, became famous thanks to its jewelry eggs, commissioned by two subsequent tsars. Each jewel that rulers gave to their wives at Easter took almost a year to craft. There was a surprise inside each of them. Currently, Faberge eggs fetch huge prices – one of them was sold at auction this week for £22.9 million. (PAP)
