Russia breaks military agreements with Portugal. Media about the reasons


Confirming Russia's Friday decision, issued in the form of a government regulation, Lusa recalled that the agreement between Lisbon and Moscow on military cooperation was concluded in 2000.
The Russian government also terminated similar agreements concluded with France in 1994 and with Canada in 1989, which came into force before the collapse of the former USSR.
In accordance with the decision of the government of Prime Minister Mikhail Mishustin, in the coming days the Russian Ministry of Foreign Affairs will formally notify the authorities of Portugal, France and Canada about the termination of the agreements, while initiating appropriate diplomatic procedures.

According to Lisbon commentators, the Russian government's decision towards Portugal and France is probably related to these countries' support for the European Commission's plan, which assumes the transfer of funds from approximately EUR 210 billion of frozen Russian assets to Ukraine attacked by Russia.
In July, Mishustin terminated the agreement on military and technical cooperation with Germany, and in June – with Sweden.
