Prime Minister Donald Tusk on the act on cryptoassets
Prime Minister Donald Tusk argues that regulation was urgently needed to protect citizens from unfair practices, as well as to reduce the risk of money laundering and foreign influence. According to the head of government “several hundred entities operating on the cryptocurrency market in Poland have connections with Russia and Belarus”.
Prime Minister Tusk also believes that it is a presidential veto “opens the door” to further activities of criminal groups and entities associated with foreign capital. — We are dealing with very dangerous phenomena, where there is Russian money, where there is the mafia. This money was also used for political promotion, said the Prime Minister. In his opinion the bill that was supposed to put an end to these mechanisms was blocked by groups “suspiciously close to these matters.”

Tusk announced that he would re-submit the bill to the Sejm and continue to try to gain the support of both the president and the opposition. This means that the dispute over the future of cryptocurrency market regulation is just beginning – and in the background there remain both doubts about state security and a deep political conflict between the Presidential Palace and the government.
Veto on the act on crypto-assets. Karol Nawrocki responds to Donald Tusk
President Karol Nawrocki assured on Saturday, in an interview with Channel Zero, that neither during work on the act on cryptoassets in parliament, nor in the reports of the secret services, he received no information about the threats related to the cryptocurrency market. Accusations of Russian influence? Karol Nawrocki denies this
Nawrocki he also rejects suggestions that the veto could have helped entities with questionable connections. In an interview with Channel Zero, the president stated that for many months there had been no allegations of Russian influence in the cryptocurrency sector. — This appeared suddenly when it turned out that there might be a veto – he said. In his opinion the government is trying to “instill social unrest” and information about the threats has not been presented to it in advance.
The president also pointed out that if there were indeed reasons for concern, it would be necessary to explain why this knowledge had not reached his office. — What? Was the president cut off from the knowledge of the services? Something doesn't add up here – he emphasized. At the same time, he suggested that publicly threatening threats may be an attempt to prepare public opinion for possible “provocations and attacks on the market” in the near future.
Overregulation or necessity? The bill will return to the Sejm
Nawrocki argued that the vetoed act constituted “over-regulation” that would excessively burden the market and did not solve the most important problems. At the same time, he assured that some of the presidential bills – including those amending the Act on the Institute of National Remembrance and the provisions on UPA symbols – have been languishing in the parliamentary “freezer” for months, even though they do not require additional financial resources.
