Poles' Christmas wallet 2025. Less for fuel, more for gifts


The average budget for Christmas expenses will be PLN 1,000. PLN 787, which means an increase of 13%. compared to the previous year. The data contained in the report show that almost 90 percent Poles will spend Christmas at home, while 2 percent is planning to go abroad. Even though this year's holidays are expected to be easier on household budgets, Poles expect higher expenses than last year. The most money will be spent on gifts (PLN 677) and groceries (PLN 671). On average, PLN 439 was allocated for travel and commuting.

Fuel and services have become cheaper
The authors of the report indicate that an average family of four will spend PLN 3,000 on Christmas. PLN 655.30, which means a decrease of approximately PLN 150 compared to 2024. The main factors reducing costs are cheaper fuel and lower prices of some services related to Christmas preparations.
For example, a full tank of fuel will cost on average PLN 348, which is a decrease from PLN 394 a year earlier. In turn, expenses on clothes and hairdressing services will decrease by PLN 148, amounting to an average of PLN 1,000. PLN 147.
Christmas trees have gone up in price
At the same time, there is a noticeable increase in the prices of some products. The price of 2 kg of carp dropped by over PLN 20, to PLN 117, but sweets, including milk chocolate, increased from PLN 5 to PLN 7.5 per 100 g. The costs of Christmas trees will also be higher. Live trees cost from PLN 75 to PLN 250, and artificial ones from PLN 205 to PLN 608.
The study shows that 51 percent Poles plan to limit their Christmas spending, while 37 percent does not intend to introduce savings. Most often, savings will concern groceries (40%) and gifts (39%), while only 14%. respondents intend to reduce travel costs.
“The situation is more stable than last year”
“The financial situation of many households is more stable than a year ago, although some Poles still declare the need to control expenses,” noted Dr. Przemysław Barbrich from the Polish Bank Association, commenting on the survey results.
The report draws attention to various ways of spending holidays. 86 percent respondents plan to stay at home, 4 percent will go to visit friends or go on holiday in Poland, and 2 percent will spend Christmas abroad. Another 4 percent respondents have not yet decided on the place of celebration.
The study was conducted in mid-November 2025 on a sample of 1,000 adult Poles using online interviews.
