The Ministry of Agriculture wants to create a map of risks for the development of agriculture in Poland – according to the ministry's announcement. It was added that it will be based on conclusions drawn from discussions with experts on strengthening the country's immunity and food security.

The ministry said that public consultations were held in the form of a strategic meeting regarding “long-term actions to strengthen food security and the resilience of the agri-food sector.” The meeting was attended by the head of the Ministry of Agriculture and Rural Development, Stefan Krajewski.

The conclusions from the discussion will be the basis for creating a map of risks for the development of agriculture in Poland, and the recommendations developed will be included in reports on the competitiveness and reforms of the European Union, the ministry said in a statement.

The Ministry of Agriculture and Rural Development reported that during Tuesday's meeting, topics discussed included: the EU agreement with the Mercosur countries, the prospects for opening the EU market to products from Ukraine, the impact of climate change and EU regulations on agri-food activities in member states and the shape of the currently negotiated EU Multiannual Financial Framework for 2028-2035.

Maintaining food self-sufficiency requires Polish agriculture to significantly improve its competitiveness and increase its resistance to crises and geopolitical turmoil. The basic condition for ensuring food security in the future will be maintaining the agricultural production base – primarily arable land and economically viable farms – said Krajewski, quoted in the release.

The minister also noted that Poland is trying to guarantee Polish farmers effective protection in trade agreements concluded with third countries, noting, however, that blocking the import of products into the country will affect Polish exports. He added that the value of agricultural product exports from Poland in 2024 amounted to almost PLN 232 billion, which is approximately 15%. all exports. (PAP)
