Denmark defeated Senegal, score 40-26, a result that confirmed the fact that the Romanian national team will not reach the “quarters” of the Women's Handball World Championship.

Romania was waiting for the match between Denmark and Senegal as an official confirmation of missing the qualification in the quarter-finals. A formality, the Nordics couldn't mess up.

The African runner-up led 5-4, then Helle Thomsen's defense tightened. Easy balls recovered near their own semi-circle and counterattacks taken to the level of art, with Emma Friis and Trine Ostergaard, the extremes of CSM Bucharest, among the protagonists.

At halftime, the scoreboard read 20-11. Slightly surprising by the number of goals conceded. With waist-sized handball players in the central defensive area, Senegal's net had been shaken just 26 times against Hungary.

The gap continued to grow in the second half. As she did against the “tricolors”, Helle Thomsen ordered the offensive until the last second. That's how the score was reached at 40-26.

A mathematical confirmation of the fact that Romania can no longer reach the quarter-finals. Denmark and Hungary will go hand in hand in the next phase.

There, our group will be paired with the one from which France and the Netherlands will most likely come.
