US-Russia talks ended. Putin's adviser spoke on Ukraine

We are not closer to peace, but we are not further away either, Ushakov said.
The meeting in the Kremlin, attended by White House special envoy Steve Witkoff and Jared Kushner, Donald Trump's son-in-law, produced no results, and the parties failed to reach an agreement on territorial issues, said Yuri Ushakov. He noted that the talks were constructive, but the differences in positions remain significant.
During a briefing in the Kremlin, Ushakov emphasized that “compromises have not yet been reached.” He added that Vladimir Putin reacted negatively to some of the proposals presented by the US. At the same time, he noted that there is potential for economic cooperation between the two countries, although no meeting between Putin and Trump is planned for now.

George Barros of the Washington Institute for the Study of War commented that Russia, as expected, rejected the terms accepted by Ukraine and the US. “Russia does not want to negotiate anything beyond the terms of surrender of Ukraine and the West” – wrote an expert on the X platform.
After the talks, Witkoff was to go to the American embassy in Moscow to provide information to the White House. Axios reported that Trump's envoys are scheduled to meet with Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky on Wednesday in one of the European countries. Ukrainian media point to Brussels as the likely venue for this meeting.
Russia wants Donbas
Yuri Ushakov said that during the talks “the topic of territories was raised”, implying that it was about Russian claims to the entire Donbaseven though Ukraine controls part of this area, recognized by the international community as Ukraine. “Some U.S. draft proposals seem more or less acceptable but require discussion,” Ushakov said. “The work will continue,” he added.
Although the talks did not bring the expected result, The Kremlin said Putin sent Trump greetings and “a number of important signals”, the details of which were not provided.
