Lorena Ostase (28 years old), one of the leaders of the Romanian women's national handball team, heats up the spirits before the match with Hungary, decisive for keeping the chances of qualification in the “quarters” World Championship.
- Reporter Adrian Jitea and photojournalist Ionuț Iordache are in Rotterdam and convey all the information and images that matter.
Lorena Ostase is the handball player you never get tired of listening to. He never shies away from saying what he thinks, he always has direct approaches. So was the meeting with GSP reporters on Tuesday, from the national training camp.
Lorena Ostase, after Romania – Denmark: “I'm glad I kept this “fire””
The main pivot of the Romanian national team noted the attitude in the match with Denmark, despite failure 31-39.
“I think more important was our approach, that there is no No. 1 in this group. It showed in our reaction when we left the hotel, when we got to the gym and when we entered the field.
I am glad that we were able to keep this fire within us, that we did not give in to this great name that Denmark has. We were there, we caused them problems, but we have to recognize and be present in our handball now.
Indeed, there is much to improve, much to do better. But it's better to have a bad match for 20 minutes against Denmark, than to go on and meet this game at other times”, said Lorena Ostase.
Ostase is ready for Romania – Hungary: “It will be equal to equal. Today, they play away!”
Last December, in Debrecen, Romania clearly lost, score 29-37, in front of Hungary and squandered the mathematical chances at the semi-finals of the European. The atmosphere in the Fonix Arena, with 4,163 spectators in the stands, was extremely hostile when the tricolor handball players entered the court. Lorena Ostase did not forget this aspect.

“It will be a different game. For a few of us it will be a bit of a memory from last year when we played them. They had the hall on their side. We entered the field trying to spite them. I still remember how they booed us. We talked beforehand, we said to be with a smile on our faces, we just greet them and enjoy ourselves. Let's make them boo us worse.
For the half of us, the ones who were there, it stayed inside us. Today, they play away. We are playing at home, with so many Romanians in the stands!
I already talked a little with the girls. I think that Hungary doesn't even have that momentum from last year, to play at home, to want so much at home. It is a very important factor. Wednesday will be equal to equal!
I am convinced and we will definitely have more supporters than them. It's a very important thing. We are aware of where and when we play. We didn't expect so many people to come to every match. They amazed us! If we have more fans than them, we won!”Ostase said.
- From last year's match with Hungary, the following remained in Romania's team: Bianca Curment, Sonia Seraficeanu, Lorena Ostase, Alicia Gogîrlă, Andreea Popa, Sorina Grozav, Alisia Boiciuc and Rebeca Necula.
Ostase: “We are anchored in reality”
The atmosphere is as it should be, balanced, focused and eager. The days at the national team are almost the same. The same program, it's different only because you meet another team, another style, other players. You live from day to day. Everything you accumulate in a day, put your head on the pillow and move on.
We only live the reality of the day. Today we win, tomorrow is a new day. The same when we lose. I think we're good at this for now. We are anchored in reality
