The National Energy System, stabilized. The Minister of Energy: “Petrobrazi is working, the Brazi plant is restarting”

“All the installations of the Petrobrazi refinery are operating in normal mode”, and “the Brazi plant will be restarted as scheduled”, said Wednesday evening the Minister of Energy Bogdan Ivan, stating that the National Energy System has been restored and any risk has been eliminated.

The Petrobrazi refinery was connected to Apa Nova's own water supply system
The Petrobrazi refinery was connected on Wednesday to Apa Nova Ploieşti's own water supply system, an operation completed within the initially assumed time frame, thus avoiding the shutdown of the refinery and the Brazi plant, due to the water crisis that affected the entire Prahova county.
The connection to the new power source required the installation and commissioning of dedicated pipelines, designed to ensure a stable flow for industrial consumers in the Petrobrazi area. According to local authorities, the intervention was timed so as to reduce operational risks and avoid additional pressure on the public distribution system.
The completion of the works allows the safe resumption of operations on the industrial platform, while the authorities continue to manage the effects of the water shortage in the region.
“We coordinated the intervention of the teams in the field to ensure the necessary flow of water to the Petrobrazi Refinery. All the refinery facilities are operating in normal mode. Today, we have 94 l/s secured for Petrobrazi (61 l/s is required) and an additional bypass, completed and functional, which we requested just in case”said the minister.
As for the Brazi plant, the official said it would be restarted on schedule.
“We talked with the operator of the plant, with the local authorities and with Romanian Waters, and the Brazi power plant will be restarted as soon as the water flow, necessary for cooling, returns to safety parameters.
We have taken all these measures in the last 24 hours, precisely to maintain the energy security of the country. The National Energy System is stable, balanced and ready for any scenario. I work together with the teams in the field so that 🇷🇴 Romania remains safe”, informed the minister.
The official stated that he “fully covered the temporary suspension of production at CECC Brazi, through market mechanisms“. “Together with the operators, we analyzed the production and decided to use the available capacities from CE Oltenia and Hidroelectrica, and the group from CET Paroșeni is ready to start.
We have established the resumption of production of Group 6 Rovinari. The connection to the SEN will take place today, within a maximum of 1 hour.
I checked the coal stocks: over 553 thousand tons at CE Oltenia.
We confirmed with Hidroelectrica the level of reserves: over 71% in the national accumulations, a very good value for this period.
Today we convened the National Energy Command to coordinate all these measures”the minister also said, stating that he analyzed the forecasts and we have no weather phenomena that would lead to an increase in consumption during this period.
