Playful deer spotted on the trails of Krasnoyarsk Pillars

December 3 17:37

On the territory of the Krasnoyarsk Pillars National Park we noticed deer, which began to come out directly to people on tourist routes. Visitors watch two females with a grown calf grazing in the Central Pillars area.

According to the press service of the national park, the animals demonstrate resistance to stress and sometimes even playful behavior, despite the frost. Experts note that a young deer can frolic, dip its head in the snow and jump up and down while watching tourists.

“Even in such weather, animals need not only to warm themselves, but also to move. This is a demonstration behavior, although usually in cold weather they prefer to save energy,” explained national park methodologist Nadezhda Goncharova.

At the same time, Stolby employees warn that despite the apparent calm, deer remain wild and potentially dangerous animals. Visitors are strictly prohibited from approaching, petting or feeding the deer. It is recommended to photograph them only from a safe distance.

Marals are the largest subspecies of red deer; their weight can reach 380 kg. When threatened, they are able to stand on their hind legs and strike powerfully with their front hooves.
