There should be a memorial plaque on the Villa in Henri Coandă Street 36, at least a trivial sign that would say, especially to those who pass by without a clue, that Constantin Argetoianu, the last “boyar from Breasta”, one of the outstanding politicians of the interwar period, lived, wrote and thought there.

A remarkable man with a tragic destiny.

On the night of May 5/6, 1950, the “Night of Dignitaries”, when Constantin Argetoianu was picked up from his daughter's house, it is said that he threw the people's security agents in the face: “Well, but you communists must be strong, if you are afraid of a whiny old man like me”. There is no written evidence of this moment, but we recognize its ironic, unmistakable style.

The former prime minister, venerable politician, diplomat and incomparable memorialist was then 79 years old. Five years later, Constantin Argetoianu died in Sighet prison, humiliated and beaten to death. He was 84 years old.
