Even if savings of PLN 10 billion were implemented, the National Health Fund would still lack at least PLN 13 billion for services next year, the spokesman for the Ministry of Health, Jakub Gołąb, told journalists. He added that a government summit is to be held on Thursday, among others. on what's next with financing in health care.

“The Ministry of Health has been saying for a long time that we have reached a wall in terms of the expenses and financial capabilities of the National Health Fund. If now we have a mixed system, i.e. some funds come from contributions, but these funds are not enough to cover all expenses, then now we have to ask what's next,” a spokesman for the Ministry of Health told journalists in CPS Dialog.

He recalled that the National Health Fund itself calculated that there would be a shortfall of PLN 23 billion for benefits next year because the health insurance premium did not cover the liabilities, and that even if savings of PLN 10 billion were implemented, there would still be a shortfall of at least PLN 13 billion.

“This year, the state budget has already added over PLN 31 billion to the National Health Fund budget compared to the financial plan. We have the option that there is a shortfall, estimated at PLN 23 billion next year, when it comes to the possibility of financing services at the same level. This is a question not only for the Ministry of Health, but for the entire government, the Minister of Finance, how this situation can be financed – this will be the subject of, among others, the summit on December 4, where we will present the idea of the Ministry of Health and the government in general on the possibility of providing care this situation, improving patient safety, what will happen in the coming months and in the coming years in terms of health care,” Gołąb announced.
