“In the evening […] A police officer driving his own Hyundai Tucson hit two 17-year-old sisters who were walking along the side of the road. Both children died at the scene from their injuries,” the statement said.
The prosecutor's office emphasized that the law enforcement officer fled the scene of the accident, but returned soon.
“According to preliminary data, the man shows signs of alcohol intoxication. He is now detained,” the department noted.
A pre-trial investigation was launched under Part 4 of Art. 286-1 (violation of road safety rules by a person driving a vehicle while intoxicated, resulting in the death of several people) of the Criminal Code of Ukraine.
The Instagram community karlivka_news showed a video from the scene of the accident.
In the comments, users write that the names of the victims were Vika and Vera. They also complain about the lack of lighting and pedestrian roads.
