“El Pais”: Trump works to the benefit of the Kremlin
He added that the task of the Old Continent should be to “maintain its democratic and liberal character”, and achieving this goal can be achieved “only through greater integration”.
“Taking a passive stance when trying to force the Ukrainian people to accept an unjust peace without any guarantees would not only be humiliating, but also strategically disastrous,” wrote the Spanish daily.
“A continent that tolerates the territorial mutilation of a sovereign country by an invader will live in the shadow of constant threat,” added “El Pais.”
In the newspaper's opinion, Trump's presidency works to the Kremlin's advantage, and the “turmoil in the West” gives Russia a “strategic opportunity”, which justifies the concern of countries such as Lithuania, Latvia, Estonia and Poland.
“Reports of sabotage and hybrid warfare (in these countries) by Moscow and its allies should not remain ignored,” the daily concluded.
