In Krasnoyarsk, a 44-year-old man staged a car theft in order to receive insurance payments and ended up in the dock. This was reported to the Main Directorate of the Ministry of Internal Affairs of Russia for the region.
It all started in December 2024, when a Krasnoyarsk resident contacted the police department with a complaint about the theft of a Geely car worth 3.5 million rubles. He told law enforcement officers that while he was away, a car registered to his stepdaughter disappeared from the parking lot near the house.
Law enforcement officers promptly went to the scene and conducted an investigation. In the course of clarifying the circumstances, police officers established that the stolen car, only with different license plates, was at the dacha of one of the victim’s friends.

The Krasnoyarsk resident lied to a friend that he was hiding from the bailiffs, and he himself filed a claim with the insurance company for payment of insurance for the theft of a car.
“The man said that he committed a crime in order to receive insurance payments, but was unable to complete his actions because he did not have time to submit all the necessary documents for the car,” law enforcement officers said.
A criminal case was opened against the Krasnoyarsk resident under Part 3 of Art. 306 of the Criminal Code of the Russian Federation “Knowingly false denunciation” and Part 3 of Art. 30, part 3 art. 159.5 of the Criminal Code of the Russian Federation on the fact of attempted fraud in the insurance industry. The court sentenced the man to two years and two months of suspended imprisonment.
