The Modlin airport records declines and plans investments

According to the data of the Civil Aviation Office, the Warsaw-Modlin airport in 2024 served 2 million 697 thousand. 575 passengers, which means a decrease from 3 million 399 thousand. 650 people in 2023 – by 20.7 percent rdr. Currently, Ryanair is the only airline that supports regular connections with Modlin.
“Talks are underway with other airlines – not with one, more than more – but I would like this good news to be presented later by the management” – PAP Tales, asked PAP Lasek, asked about plans to revive traffic in the port near Warsaw. He added that this information should appear in winter at the turn of 2025 and 2026.
Lasek reminded that the expansion of the airport in Modlin is planned, i.e. Enlargement of the port terminal, reorganizing parking boards so that it is possible to handle more aircraft and expand parking lots. He added that it is also planned to build a rail connection to the airport.
“I believe in the airport in Modlin. The expansion of this airport is planned for (…) to service 7 million passengers. And analyzes that were carried out by (…) IATA (International Association of Air Carriers – PAP) in this respect show that this expansion absolutely makes sense” – said the deputy head. He added that perhaps a decrease in movement in Modlin would allow”easily carry out this investment“.
Lasek also reported that Modlin is currently a complementary airport for the Chopin Airport in Warsaw, and in the future it will be such for the Central Communication Port in Baranów. As he explained, the low -cost carriers expect the time to “spent on the ground” (i.e. between landing and start) to be 30 minutes, and in some cases only 20 minutes. As he said, a large airport such as CPK “will not provide such possibilities” because it will not have a low -cost part.
“Of course, if the low -cost lines want to use various reasons for this airport (in Baranów), we are open, but there are also such connections that will use just such an infrastructure that will be much cheaper. Several times cheaper for them, for each chair where the ticket is sold,” said Lasek.
According to ULC data, the Modlin airport is one of two airports in Poland (next to the Olsztyn-Mazury port), which in 2024 noted a decrease in the number of passengers compared to 2023. ULC explained in his report that the decline in Modlin is related to a reduction in the number of places offered by Ryanair.
