“We are appalled by the brazen murder of two Palestinians in Jenin, in the occupied West Bank, by Israeli border guards yesterday in what appears to be another summary execution,” Jeremy Laurence said at a UN briefing in Geneva.
Two men killed Thursday apparently surrendered and were unarmed during a raid in the Israeli-occupied West Bank, according to footage shown by Palestine TV.
“A heinous crime.” The Ministry of Foreign Affairs and the Palestinian diaspora on the murder in Jenin
“The Ministry of Foreign Affairs and the Palestinian diaspora strongly condemn the heinous crime of summary execution committed by the Israeli occupation army on two Palestinians (…) near the Jenin (refugee) camp in the northern West Bank,” the official statement said.
The scene depicted in the recording “constitutes a documented war crime and a flagrant violation of all laws, international conventions and human principles and values,” it was emphasized.
The Israeli army said it was investigating the “incident”. According to her, Israeli forces surrounded the building where there were “wanted people” associated with the “terrorist network near Jenin”, and when two suspects left, “fire was directed at them.” The joint statement by the Israeli army and police did not give a reason why the men were shot at.
The right-wing minister supports the Israeli army. He talks about the “incident”
Far-right National Security Minister Itamar Ben Gwir later issued a statement giving “full support” to the Israeli army and the police unit that was involved in the “incident.”
The Palestinian organization Hamas, which agreed a ceasefire with Israel in the Gaza Strip last month, called the shooting of the men an execution and called on the international community to intervene to stop similar actions.
