27 November 14:14

Another intense earthquake occurred in the Republic of Buryatia in the waters of Lake Baikal. This was reported by IrkutskMedia with reference to the website of the Baikal branch of the Unified Geophysical Service of the Russian Academy of Sciences.

The seismic event was recorded on the evening of November 25. The epicenter was located in the waters of the Barguzin Bay of Baikal. The energy class of the earthquake was 10.5. In the village of Ust-Barguzin, the intensity of the earthquake was 4 points.

The Ministry of Emergency Situations explains that such an earthquake is recognized by the slight rattling and vibration of objects, dishes and window glass, the creaking of doors and walls. Inside the building, most people feel the shaking.

The south of the Irkutsk region is located within the boundaries of the Baikal rift zone, so earthquakes regularly occur there. Serious destruction usually does not occur in this territory, since the capital of the Angara region and nearby areas are located on the Siberian platform, within the boundaries of which the main Sayan fault zone passes.
