Viktor Orban will meet with Vladimir Putin

The government in Budapest has not officially confirmed the information yet. The Government Information Center replied to Telex that it “will inform the public about the Prime Minister's foreign trips in the standard way.” Panyi, who cited a source familiar with the details of the trip, wrote on the X platform that the government press office assured him that it would comment on the reports “in due course.”
Prime Minister Orban last met in person with Putin in July 2024, also in Moscow. The government then confirmed the trip only after the prime minister landed in Russia, Telex recalled.

Meeting in the face of peace talks
The Hungarian press noted that the visit would take place at a time when world leaders have intensified talks to achieve peace in Ukraine. The Hungarian government last week supported the US 28-point peace plan, calling on the European Union and European leaders to accept it. Prime Minister Orban wrote a letter to the President of the European Commission, Ursula von der Leyen, on this matter, calling on the EU to unconditionally support Donald Trump's plan.
The US peace plan was criticized by Ukraine and its European allies, who said it contained too many concessions to Russia. As a result of negotiations conducted since the weekend, nine points were removed, although several issues, especially possible territorial concessions, still need to be agreed.
