Ukraine agreed to limit the number of Ukrainian Armed Forces to 800 thousand military personnel – FT

As the media pointed out, the most difficult issues in the “peace plan” for resolving the war of the aggressor country of the Russian Federation against Ukraine remain territories and security guarantees from the United States.

One of the prominent members of the Ukrainian delegation expressed an opinion about the possibility of an inevitable meeting between Zelensky and US President Donald Trump in the White House. According to him, Ukraine agreed with most of the points of the peace proposal.

At the same time, Russia has signaled that it may reject a modified US “peace plan” to end the war against Ukraine if it does not satisfy Moscow's long-standing demands.

According to the previous 28-point proposal, Ukraine was supposed to limit the number of troops to 600 thousand.

Context

The Trump administration, with the participation of the aggressor country of the Russian Federation, has prepared a 28-point plan for ending the Russian-Ukrainian war. The media claimed that the document could actually mean the surrender of Ukraine.

According to the document, the United States agrees to recognize the occupied Donbass and Crimea as Russian, Ukraine will be required to reduce the size of its army by half, sanctions will be lifted from the Russian Federation and the investigation of its war crimes in Ukraine will be stopped. According to media reports, Trump approved this project. Axios published the full text of the agreement. Trump wanted the document to be signed by November 27.

On November 22, Trump said that the “peace plan” for Ukraine is not “final.” On the same day, the leaders of the EU countries, Canada, and Japan issued a joint statement in which they welcomed the ongoing US efforts to establish peace in Ukraine and noted that Washington’s draft “peace plan” “is a basis that will require additional work.”

EU leaders also handed over to the United States their version of a reworked “peace plan” for Ukraine. It contains three main provisions, WP reported. Ukraine and its allies in Europe, among other things, demanded from the United States security guarantees for Kyiv, similar to Art. 5 of the NATO Charter on mutual defense, the media wrote.

On November 23, negotiations on a “peace plan” were held in Switzerland with the participation of delegations from Ukraine, the USA, Great Britain, Germany and France. As a result, it was reduced to 19 points, the FT noted. In particular, the clause on frozen assets of the Russian Federation was removed from the US “peace plan,” Bloomberg indicated.

Ukraine has agreed to the peace proposal, with only “minor details” remaining to be ironed out, CBS News reported Nov. 25.
