The Ministry of Family, Youth and Equal Opportunities was abolished in December 2024, but the state continues to pay rent for the institution's premises. The Ministry of Labour, which took over the duties of the former ministry led by Gabriela Firea in the past, paid a rent of 420,000 euros in 2025, according to Snoop journalists. The contract is now due to be terminated in December.

The Ministry of Labour, now headed by PSD Minister Florin Manole, sent in an answer to Snoop that in 2025 the institution paid 421,377.48 euros with VAT for the rent of the former headquarters of the Ministry of Family. The contract is to be terminated as of December 8, according to the authorities.

The Ministry of the Family was established in 2021, and the social democrat Gabriela Firea came to lead it. In July 2023, she resigned from her position after the scandal of “Horror Asylums”, in which those close to the politician were implicated. His place was taken by Natalia Intotero.

The ministry was abolished in 2024

The ministry ended up being abolished in December 2024. It was absorbed into the Ministry of Labour.

Despite all this, for a year, the institution continued to pay rent for a floor with an area of almost 2,500 square meters, in the World Trade Center Bucharest building, in the north of the Capital. Currently, about 100 employees work there, according to Snoop journalists.

The lease contract was signed by former minister Gabriela Firea, about whom PressHub wrote in 2023 that she refused other offers of headquarters proposals from RA-APPS.

The Ministry of Labor specified that, on the date of the reorganization, i.e. December 2024, “it did not have a suitable space for the activities of the approximately 140 employees, which is why the rental contract in Montreal Square was extended until 12/31/2025”.

In October, it was decided that the employees of the former Ministry of the Family will be moved to a space of the National Public Pension House.

“Currently, work is being carried out at the future headquarters to reorganize the IT infrastructure, by installing and putting the equipment into operation, simultaneously with actions to sanitize and optimize the work space,” the institution sent, to a request that Snoop made in early November.
