Russia has “invested” nearly EUR 400 million in activities aimed at winning parliamentary seats by politicians close to it who are candidates in the September elections to the unicameral parliament of Moldova, the chairman of this institution, Igor Grosu, said on Monday.

The Moldovan politician announced during the 4th parliamentary summit of the Crimean Platform in Stockholm that the people promoted by Moscow during the election campaign included both politicians dependent on the Kremlin and people linked to the criminal world.
The speaker of Moldova's parliament noted that before the September elections, his country “became the target of an unprecedented disinformation campaign.”
– This is a hybrid war in which Russia has invested almost EUR 400 million – said Grosu, adding that “Moldovans resisted this pressure and manipulation, choosing the path of freedom and stability.”
Organized on September 28 this year. the elections in Moldova ended with the success of the pro-European Action and Solidarity Party (PAS), led by Grosu. This party won 55 seats in the 101-seat chamber.
Second place in the vote was taken by the pro-Russian Patriotic Electoral Bloc (BEP), with 26 seats, created from four left-wing parties. The leader was the Party of Socialists of the Republic of Moldova (PSRM) led by former president Igor Dodon.
Shortly before the elections, the state electoral commission removed from the lists several candidates of pro-Russian groups, accused of illegal financing of their activities. During the election campaign, according to the Moldovan services, there were also large-scale disinformation operations organized by Russia and numerous cyberattacks. (PAP)
