Pensions in Poland. See how many people get up to 1,000 and how many get more than 7,000. zloty [TABELA]

The number of retirees in Poland in 2024 was 7.39 million – according to the latest report of the Central Statistical Office (GUS) published on Tuesday. This means an increase of 1.7%. compared to 2023
Meaning that the percentage share of retirees in the entire population of our country is inevitably approaching 20%. In 2024, the counter stopped at 19.7%.
The largest number of retirees is in the Masovian Voivodeship (over 1.21 million). Only Silesia exceeds the 1 million mark.

How much money goes to pensions? Not only from ZUS
A total of PLN 336.2 billion was spent on pensions in 2024 (an increase of 16.1% compared to the previous year), including:
- PLN 316.9 billion was allocated to the non-agricultural system
- for agriculture – PLN 19.3 billion
- PLN 292.3 billion was paid from ZUS
- from the Ministry of Interior and Administration – PLN 14.3 billion
- from the Ministry of National Defense – PLN 8 billion
- from the Ministry of Justice – PLN 2.3 billion

How much is the average pension?
Average monthly pensions in 2024 were:
- PLN 3,862.61 from ZUS
- 2111.34 from KRUS
- PLN 6,374.66 from the Ministry of Justice
- PLN 6,238.42 from the Ministry of Interior and Administration
- PLN 5,982.15 from the Ministry of National Defense
The ratio of the average pension from ZUS to the average salary in 2024 was 55.8%. Thus, there was a slight decrease compared to 2023. In the case of KRUS, this ratio amounted to – 29.6 percent, which means a slight decrease after the previous increase in 2023.

The average monthly pension from ZUS throughout 2024 amounted to PLN 3,862.61 and increased by 14%. compared to the previous year. The highest benefits were paid in the Silesian Voivodeship (the average monthly pension was PLN 4,492.93), and the lowest in the Świętokrzyskie Voivodeship (PLN 3,491.85)..
Pensions in Poland. How are the amounts broken down?
Half of the beneficiaries (median) received a pension of up to PLN 3,312.20half of the men received a pension of up to PLN 4,259.41, while half of the women received a pension of up to PLN 2,823.61.
“In March 2024, 6.8 percent of people received pensions lower than 50 percent of the median (below PLN 1,656.10), while 22.1 percent received pensions higher than 150 percent of the median (above PLN 4,968.30), while in 2023, 6.4 percent of people received pensions below 50 percent of the median, and 150 percent – 21.6 percent – calculates the Central Statistical Office.

“The number of retirees in Poland is growing, while the number of disability pensioners is decreasing. Benefits and the total amount of pension expenses are systematically growing, especially in the non-agricultural system. Despite the increase in nominal benefits, the ratio to the average salary remains at a similar or slightly lower level. Pensioners' income is growing in real terms, although it is still slightly lower than the average income in the country,” we read in the summary of the Central Statistical Office report.
