Peter Schmeichel Calls for Manchester City to Face 125-Point Penalty

Peter Schmeichel, the former Manchester City goalkeeper from the 2002-2003 season, has proposed a bold initiative to penalize the club following breaches of Premier League financial regulations.
The football community was shaken last month by revelations that Manchester City allegedly inflated their income by over £900 million between 2009 and 2018.
The club, which has won eight titles in England, continues to assert its innocence and has confirmed plans to contest the ruling, indicating that it may even take the case to the High Court. A final verdict is not expected until late January 2027, keeping discussions of potential penalties at the forefront.
Schmeichel Advocates for Harsh Punishment for Manchester City
Schmeichel stated, “In my opinion, they should remain in the Premier League but start each season over the next five years with a 25-point deduction. This will remind everyone that attempts to defraud other clubs attract severe consequences.
Additionally, I believe a five-year transfer ban and a massive financial fine are necessary. Furthermore, the owners should be compelled to sell the club.
They do not have the moral qualities to run this team or any other in England. Everyone directly involved in these irregularities should be banned from football for life,” Schmeichel said, as reported by sportal.bg.
The former Danish international added that, from his perspective, it is not crucial whether Manchester City retains or loses the three titles won during the investigated period (2009-2018): “Regardless of whether they withdraw the titles or keep them, I feel that this does not change much.”
Conversely, Jaap Stam, a former defender for Manchester United, believes that Manchester City should definitely have their titles rescinded.
I think the trophies must be taken away because they were won through dishonest means. I fully agree with Peter that a harsh penalty must be imposed. It is extremely important for the Premier League to set a clear example for everyone to prevent such occurrences in the future,” said Stam.
Peter Schmeichel concluded his career after his time at Manchester City but achieved significant success at their rivals, Manchester United, where he played from 1991 to 1999, winning numerous trophies including five Premier League titles and a Champions League title.
