President Nicusor Dan decided to create a working group to prepare his visit to the USA, said the presidential advisor for foreign policy and national security Marius Lazurca, stating that Nicusor Dan is actually the “active leader” of this group. According to Lazurca, there are some “mandatory dimensions” of the visit.
Marius Lazurca said, on Monday, on Digi24, that the platform on which Nicușor Dan's trip to the USA will be set up “is very promising” and was not invented ad hoc for the preparation of this visit, and the “working group” includes all the institutions that must contribute to this visit.
Lazurca said that Nicușor Dan is, in fact, “the active leader of this group” – “he did not delegate the preparation activities for this visit to your subordinates, but is directly in charge of the preparation of this visit”.
“Every time we think of a foreign policy action, Mr. President has some unconditional expectations from us, those who are in his service. First of all, it is the building of substance. Mr. President does not want visits for the sake of visits, visits that represent empty ceremonies, protocol or trips that do not mean anything for the benefit of our citizens. Every time he asks us for substance and asks us to prove it to him that this visit is beneficial to the national interest and ultimately beneficial to the citizens of Romania”, said Marius Lazurca, quoted by News.ro.
He affirmed that there are “several mandatory dimensions” in Nicușor Dan's foreign visits: “the political dimension, with a theme of great interest for Romania, namely what we put on the agenda of the political dialogue so that Romania comes out on top”, and the economic dimension, “absolutely fundamental”.
Lazurca also said that the president is “very interested” in the direct relationship with the communities of Romanians living abroad: “It is a topic of great interest to Mr. President”.
Foreign Minister Oana Ţoiu recently stated that Nicușor Dan's visit to the USA is planned for the first part of 2026.
