Men should be careful: such work can “ruin” their health

Sedentary work associated with long periods of sitting at a desk can cause serious disorders in the male body.

Urologist-andrologist at the Center for Reproductive Health Aram Arakelyan spoke about the main threats and methods of protection in a conversation with one of the central online publications.

According to the specialist, today sedentary work has become a reality for a huge number of men. However, not everyone understands how negatively it affects health.

The problems that arise from constant sitting do not only affect the lower back or pelvic area. The functions of the reproductive system and general physical condition are affected. The specialist identified 3 main health threats.

1. Poor circulation

Prolonged sitting impairs blood flow to the pelvic organs. Because of this, stagnation develops, tissues receive less oxygen, and this negatively affects the functioning of the prostate and testicles. As the doctor noted, the likelihood of prostatitis and other inflammatory processes in such conditions increases markedly.

2. Hormonal changes

According to Arakelyan, physical inactivity, a common companion to sedentary work, leads to a decrease in testosterone levels. Men may notice a decrease in libido, erection problems, decreased muscle mass, and gradual weight gain.

3. Excess weight and related diseases

Working at a computer is often accompanied by snacks on the go and a lack of exercise. This contributes to weight gain, which further exacerbates circulatory and hormonal problems.

Obesity increases the risk of cardiovascular diseases and negatively affects the reproductive sphere.

How to reduce harm

According to the specialist, it is quite possible to prevent many problems if:

  • get up regularly and do short stretches
  • include physical activity in your lifestyle
  • watch your diet
  • organize the workplace so that the spine is in the correct position.

Arakelyan emphasizes: taking care of the body and health is a contribution to a long and fulfilling life. Even small habits can significantly reduce the risks associated with chronic sitting.

Important: This information is not a substitute for consulting a doctor. The body's response to changes in diet/training may depend on individual physiology, genetic predisposition and health status. It is recommended to consult a specialist.
