In Krasnoyarsk, doctors from the FSNKTs FMBA of Russia removed a malignant pelvic tumor the size of a soccer ball from a patient. The weight of the neoplasm was 5 kilograms.

According to doctors, a 31-year-old man was admitted to them in extremely serious condition. The tumor completely occupied the pelvic cavity, squeezing the vessels and ureters, which ultimately provoked inflammation in the kidneys and caused a septic condition.

“The tumor was disintegrating, so it was constantly bleeding: because of this, the patient had severe anemia, which required transfusion of blood components,” said oncologist-surgeon Ruslan Khlobystin of the Federal Scientific Research Center of the Federal Medical and Biological Agency of Russia.

The device was used during the operation cell saverwhich allows you to collect, process the patient’s blood and return it back.

“This made it possible to avoid transfusion and the associated risk of transfusion reactions,” explained the anesthesiologist of the Federal Scientific and Clinical Center of the Federal Medical and Biological Agency of Russia. Igor Gorshunov.

The operation was successful, and the patient is currently undergoing rehabilitation. Doctors assess the man's condition as stable. He has already been taken off his strong sedatives.
