US President Donald Trump said on Monday that his conversation with Xi Jinping was “very good” and that he intends to visit China in April and receive the Chinese leader as part of a state visit. The topics discussed included: war in Ukraine.

“I just had a very successful phone call with Chinese President Xi. We discussed many topics, including Ukraine and Russia, fentanyl, soybeans and other agricultural products, etc. We made a good and very important agreement for our Great Farmers – and it will only get better,” Trump said in a post on his Truth Social social media site. He also assured that relations with China are very strong and both sides have made progress in implementing the resolutions reached at the leaders' meeting in South Korea at the end of October.
“Now we can focus on the bigger picture. To that end, President Xi invited me to Beijing in April, which I accepted, and I returned the invitation, and he will be my guest on a state visit to the U.S. later in the year,” Trump said. A state-level visit is accompanied by an extended ceremony. This was the nature of Xi's visit to the White House in 2015.
Neither Trump nor the Chinese authorities have disclosed details of talks on the war in Ukraine. After the leaders met in Busan, Trump reported only that they agreed that he and Xi would work together to end the war.
According to a statement from the Chinese Foreign Ministry, Xi also presented China's “principled” position on Taiwan. He noted that “Taiwan's return to China is an important part of the post-war international order” and called for jointly “protecting the fruits of victory in World War II.”
Trump, quoted by the Chinese Foreign Ministry, allegedly admitted that he “completely agrees with (Xi-PAP's) views on bilateral relations” of Washington and Beijing. He assured that both sides are implementing the arrangements reached during the talks in South Korea. He also assured that “the United States understands the importance of the Taiwan issue for China.”
