The US president's visit would take place in April 2026, according to Axios.
Both leaders have an interest in maintaining a balance in the relationship after last month's temporary trade deal.
But with Xi's rhetoric about reclaiming Taiwan intensifying, and trade disputes in areas such as mineral and chip exports still not fully resolved, meeting the world's two most powerful leaders always carries risks and high stakes.
On November 17, Scott Bessent, the US Secretary of the Treasury, expressed his “hope” that the agreement between the United States and China on exports of rare minerals can be officially concluded in about ten days.
“We haven't finalized the deal yet”but “we hope to do so by Thanksgiving“, that is, on November 27, the American secretary told Fox News.
Scott Bessent showed up “confident” that “China will respect its commitments”. Otherwise, he stressed, Washington has “numerous levers” to fight back.
US President Donald Trump and his Chinese counterpart, Xi Jinping, met at the end of October to ease the trade conflict between the world's two largest economies.
