Earlier that day, the Financial Times wrote, citing informed sources, that the “peace plan” had been reduced from 28 points to 19.
Zelensky noted that the Ukrainian delegation, which participated in negotiations with the US and European delegations in Geneva (Switzerland), has already returned home.
“Now the list of necessary steps to end the war can become workable. As of now, after Geneva, there are fewer points, no longer 28, and many correct things have been taken into account in this framework. There is still something to work on for everyone together – very difficult – to make the final document, and we must do everything with dignity,” he wrote.
The President of Ukraine emphasized that Kyiv appreciates that “the majority of the world is ready to help,” and “the American side is constructive.”
“In fact, there were meetings all day yesterday, it was not an easy, extremely detailed work. Our team reported today on a new draft of steps, and this is really the right approach – sensitive things, I will discuss the sensitive ones with the president [США Дональдом] Trump,” Zelensky said.
He stressed that “Ukraine will never be an obstacle to peace.”
“Millions of Ukrainians expect and deserve a decent peace. We will do everything for this, we are ready to work as quickly as possible,” Zelensky said.
Context
Following the negotiations in Geneva, the United States and Ukraine released a joint statement stating that the parties had prepared an updated and revised peace framework document.
The White House released a statement after the negotiations that the amended draft peace agreement reflects Ukraine's national interests.
What exactly is in the document has not been officially announced. The media wrote that the delegations were able to agree on most of the norms of the previously proposed document and adjusted a significant part of the controversial issues. In particular, we are talking about the issue of the size of the Armed Forces of Ukraine, the issue of the Zaporozhye Nuclear Power Plant, the format of the exchange of prisoners and the return of convicts.
The delegations allegedly agreed to “put out of the brackets” the clauses concerning territories and enshrining in the Constitution Ukraine’s refusal to join NATO. These issues should be discussed and agreed upon by Zelensky and Trump.
