Traces of catastrophic events that occurred in ancient times were found in Krasnoyarsk, Gradvestnik reports.

As archaeologist, candidate of historical sciences Evgeny Artemyev said, data from archaeological excavations show that at the end of the Ice Age, natural catastrophic events occurred in the Krasnoyarsk region. This is confirmed by the results of excavations by archaeologists on Afontovaya Mountain (now there is a ski slope of the Sopka sports complex), which was carried out in 2014.

Experts discovered that the cultural layers (areas of the ancient surface with traces of human activity dating back to the last glaciation) were disturbed and displaced both along the slopes of the mountain and along the altitude. At the same time, a number of geological sections obtained indicate that the disturbances are associated with a series of catastrophic events in the area where the ancient sites were located.

“Based on the results of excavations, scientists have suggested that at least two natural disasters occurred about 12 thousand years ago. They dramatically changed the landscape of the modern location of Krasnoyarsk and led to the partial destruction of ancient people and animals living on the slopes of the mountain at that time. This theory is confirmed by the finds of human remains mixed with the remains of fauna, and stone tools in the materials of excavations on Mount Afontova,” said Evgeny Artemyev.

But the answer to the question has not yet been found: are these natural disasters a consequence of a local earthquake or the consequences of a global planetary catastrophe. According to the scientist, aboutapproximately 12,800 years ago, our planet collided with a huge cosmic body, which led to sudden climate change, earthquakes across the entire surface of the earth and the extinction of a large number of animals and human groups.

“At the same time, there is a version according to which a large cosmic body could collide with the Earth in the vicinity of Krasnoyarsk. During the collision, the braking path of the cosmic body, passing from the west of the modern site of the city, formed Gremyachaya Hill. While the slopes of Gremyachaya Sopka moved a long distance down from the impact, forming the modern slopes of Afontovaya Mountain, similar to the coastal ledge. Further archaeological research and geological study may be able to approach the solution of these issues,” summed up Evgeny Artemyev.
