A new building of the University of Warsaw will be built in Powiśle

The Media Research Laboratory, television, radio and photography studios, teaching and lecture rooms will be located in the new building of the University of Warsaw at ul. Bednarska 2/4 in Warsaw. It will include, among others: Faculty of Journalism, Information and Bibliology. The investment value is approximately PLN 255 million.


On Friday, the foundation act was signed and the cornerstone was laid in the foundations of the building. This is a symbolic inauguration of the construction of the building, which has been ongoing since November 2024. Its completion is scheduled for 2027.
The new building of the University of Warsaw in Powiśle will be used by students, PhD students and employees Faculty of Journalism, Information and Bibliology (WDIB) and Faculty of Economic Sciences (WNE). The new building will also house the university radio station – Academic Radio Kampus.
– The investment value is approximately PLN 255 million. The investment being created for the needs of the Faculty of Journalism is part of the university's ten-year program – described on Friday during a press meeting the Rector of the University of Warsaw, Prof. Alojzy Nowak.
– This construction is another step towards creating a modern and comfortable space that favors innovation and the development of interdisciplinary research, as well as teaching at the highest level – he added.
The building will be built at Bednarska 2/4, in the area between Bednarska, Dobra, Nowy Zjazd and Wybrzeże Kościuszkowskie streets. It will be connected to the building of the former Teodozja Majewska Baths. The facility will be located right next to the crossing under Wisłostrada and 300 meters from the pedestrian and bicycle footbridge on the Vistula. Its total area will be almost 19.2 thousand square meters. sq m
– This is extremely important for us, because I will have students and employees in one place. So far, we have been to three different places and buildings: Nowy Świat, ul. Dobra, on the Main Campus. This is a huge opportunity for us. I hope that in two years we will be in one location – said on Friday during a press meeting, Prof. Dariusz Kuźmina, dean of the Faculty of Journalism, Information and Bibliology.
The building will contain teaching and lecture rooms, including two rooms for 160 people and a main hall with a capacity of 250 people. Also available will be: research rooms, such as TV, radio and photography studios and the Media Research Laboratory equipped with modern specialized equipment, computer laboratories, conference rooms, social, administrative and service rooms. The reading room, arranged as an open space, will include places for team and individual work.
The facility will include amenities for people with physical, hearing and visual disabilities, such as induction loops and threshold-free entrances, as well as pro-ecological solutions based on, among others, on renewable energy sources. There is a garden on the roof of the building. The vegetation will also include, among others: on patios and recreational terraces. The parking lot will be equipped with chargers for electric cars. There will also be approximately 70 parking spaces for bicycles. The central place will be a three-story agora – a hall that will connect all parts of the building designed around it. The building will have three above-ground floors (with a fourth partial floor) and one underground floor.
At the construction site at ul. Bednarska 2/4, demolition work and soil remediation have been carried out so far. Collisions with underground installations on the plot were removed and the excavation was secured. Some works related to the underground reinforced concrete structure have also been completed and are planned to be continued in the coming months.
The design of the building was prepared by BBGK Architekci sp. z o. o. The general contractor of the investment is Karmar SA, and the Substitute Investor is ZBM SA (PAP)
