The Grok chatbot, which operates on the X platform, has in recent days praised its owner, Elon Musk, in his responses, arguing that he is the most outstanding and the greatest, the Washington Post wrote on Friday. Grok estimated, for example, that Musk would win a fight with boxer Mike Tyson.
“Today, a while ago, Grok was unfortunately manipulated by adversarial prompting to say absurdly positive things about me,” Elon Musk wrote on Thursday in a post on his X platform, adding a smiling emoticon. Adversarial prompting is a technique of entering multiple commands into a chatbot that will lead the chat to provide an answer that it was not designed to provide.
On Thursday evening, Grok gave more nuanced answers. Instead of talking about Musk as the greatest man in the world, the chatbot placed him among the top ten great figures in the world. Both X and Musk did not respond to The Washington Post's inquiries.
“These entries are a funny reminder of a serious issue: there is no such thing as a neutral AI tool,” Alexios Mantzarlis, director of the Security, Trust and Safety Initiative at Cornell Tech, told WP in an interview. He added that in some cases Grok seems to have a habit of using sources friendly to Musk and the far right.
The daily recalled that Musk's chatbot is also used by the US government. Recently, Musk managed to obtain a government contract worth $200 million. The new venture with the participation of the billionaire is to support the Pentagon in the development of AI models for the needs of the US Ministry of Defense. (PAP)
