Dayot Upamecano (27 years old) is in the last year of his contract with Bayern Munichand the negotiations between the French defender and the Bavarian club regarding the extension of the agreement have not materialized, at least for the moment. Thus, several top clubs in European football entered the wire, trying to take advantage of this situation.

According to the newspaper IMAGEtalks between the officials of the German champions and Upamecano's agents have been ongoing for months, but so far, the two sides have not reached a consensus.
The cited source stated that the reason why the French stopper would delay signing the extension with Bayern is represented by the interest of other top clubs in Europe for his services from 2026, such as Liverpool, PSG or Real Madrid.
This hypothesis was confirmed by Christian Falk, the head of the Football Department of the German publication, but the German also testified that in the last few days there has been an important change in this topic, namely that one of the previously mentioned clubs has stopped discussions with the Frenchman's representatives.

In the podcast “Bayern Insider”, Falk revealed that, indeed, Upamecano has several doors open for 2026, but not that of the “cormorants”, who withdrew from this race, focusing all their attention on Marc Guehi.
The same Falk also stated that the French stopper would not have prioritized a possible move to England anyway, whether it is Liverpool or another important team in the Premier League.
I have bad news for Liverpool fans. Dayot will not be at Anfield in 2026. That is 100% clear. The English club withdrew from this race. From what I understand, Marc Guehi is their main target for next season in the center of defense.
Most likely, the move would not have materialized anyway, given that he (no – Upamecano) prioritizes only three options. Bayern Munich, Real Madrid and Paris Saint-Germain.
It is not yet known exactly where he will play from 2026, but he will certainly do so for one of these three teams.

As for Real Madrid and PSG, both clubs are actively involved in talks with Upamecano, reports Falk.
Los Blancos want to strengthen their defense should Antonio Rudiger and David Alaba leave the Santiago Bernabeu in the summer (both players are out of contract in 2026), while the Parisians plan to build a team based on a strong core of French players, and the Bayern stopper would fit perfectly into that concept.
Of course, the option of Bayern Munich remains open for Upamecano, the club for which he has been playing since 2021 and with whom he has won six trophies so far (three Bundesliga titles, respectively three German Supercups).
