Formula 1 returns this weekend in Las Vegas, the first round after the Ferrari fiasco in Brazil, where the team did not take any points.
The failure sparked criticism from chairman John Elkann, 49, who told Lewis Hamilton, 40, and Charles Leclerc, 28, to “talk less and focus on racing”.
Lewis Hamilton: “We have a great relationship”
At the race launch conference in Vegas, Hamilton calmly addressed his superior's statements.
“I speak to John almost every week and we have a great relationship. Everyone on the team is completely committed to turning things around. So am I.”
The Brit revealed that Elkann called him before making the public statements:
“I know what his intentions are. He wants to keep us together.”
“I wake up thinking about racing, I fall asleep thinking about racing”
Hamilton subtly countered the idea that he wasn't focused enough.
“I think about racing when I wake up, I think about it when I go to bed… even in my sleep.
If anything, I need to learn to disconnect more.”
The seven-time world champion also acknowledges the pressure of the season:
“It was the busiest year of my career.”
A season without a podium: “We climb a mountain and fall ten steps back”
Lewis Hamilton is going through one of the most difficult seasons of his career.
He didn't get any podium, and in the drivers' standings he is in 6th place, a long way from Leclerc.
“It's like climbing a mountain and sometimes we slip ten steps back. But the moment when everything aligns will come.
I am convinced that we will turn the situation around.”
Lewis Hamilton also released a provocative message to the press: “I can't wait to see what you write then”
The final message of the British was an optimistic one, but also with a provocative tone for the press:
“When we put it all together, it will be incredible.
And I can't wait to see what you write after that point“, said the British, according to dailymail.com.
