A candidate close to the president Nicusor Dan can spoil the plans of the other right-wing competitors in the elections for the Capital City Hall. However, he claims that he does not want to withdraw from the electoral race and accuses pressure from the parties in the government coalition. Vlad Gheorghe comes to the HotNews studio on Thursday, from 14.00, to explain what he plans to do in the elections on December 7.
- The HotSpot political podcast is produced by journalist Laurenţiu Ungureanu, it is broadcast live and can be watched on the HotNews.ro website, on YouTube and Facebook.
“I am the only genuine independent candidate and I am the future mayor who will abolish the sectors and Ilfovul”, said Vlad Gheorghe upon leaving the headquarters of the Municipal Electoral Office, where he submitted his candidacy for the position of general mayor of the Capital.
Former MEP Vlad Gheorghe is rated with 2.6%, according to a survey conducted by AtlasIntel commissioned by HotNews, and the latest survey conducted by INSCOP shows that 1.1% of Bucharesters would vote for him in the elections on December 7.
Vlad Gheorghe is the first person who publicly asked Nicusor Dan to run for the presidency, immediately after the cancellation of the elections. He supported the President of Romania in his campaign for the May 19 elections.
Vlad Gheorghe started his political career in the USR, where he was, between 2017-2020, the party's legal adviser at the Chamber of Deputies. He was elected MEP on USRPLUS lists in the 2020-2024 mandate, filling the seat left vacant by Clotilde Armand, who resigned after winning the District 1 Mayoralty. He resigned from USR in February 2024.
Later, he ran as an independent candidate in the European Parliament elections on June 9, 2024, but failed to pass the required 3% threshold. He then announced that he would run for a parliamentary seat in the elections of December 1, 2024 and founded the DREPT party. But even his formation did not manage to enter the Romanian Parliament, after obtaining a score of just over one percent, both in the Chamber of Deputies and in the Senate.
