The election campaign officially starts on Saturday. AEP's message to candidates

The electoral campaign for the partial local elections begins on Saturday, November 22, and the Permanent Electoral Authority (AEP) reminded the candidates of their obligations during this period, urging them “to contribute to the conduct of a fair and transparent campaign”.

AEP specified that during the campaign period, which will end on Saturday, December 6, at 7 am, “all legal provisions in force must be respected, only certain types of activities and propaganda materials are allowed, such as electoral posters, audio or video electoral propaganda materials broadcast by audiovisual media in accordance with the law, advertising in the print media, online electoral propaganda materials, brochures, leaflets and other materials printed from the same category”.

“Political advertising materials will be labeled in accordance with the provisions of Regulation (EU) 2024/900, respecting the general requirements and models in the annexes of Implementing Regulation (EU) 2025/1410. Political competitors have the obligation to remove, until the start of the electoral campaign, all propaganda materials used up to that moment that do not comply with the rules allowed by the legislation in force,” the AEP press release states.

What messages they are not allowed to use

AEP reminded the candidates that during the campaign “the use of discriminatory messages or slogans, messages inciting hatred and intolerance and any forms, means, acts and actions of defamation and religious or ethnic enmity are prohibited”.

“At the same time, according to the law, it is prohibited to use vehicles inscribed or pasted with campaign slogans or images of candidates, as well as other references to electoral competitors, the use of vehicles that broadcast audio materials, while moving or stationary, the organization of shows, celebrations, fireworks, the use of banners, meshes, advertising tents, advertising pavilions, mobile advertising panels, advertising flags, shields, advertising screens, directional advertising signs, self-supporting advertising structures, advertising means, advertising panels, special advertising projects, illuminated advertising”, AEP concluded.

On December 7, elections will be held for the post of general mayor of the Capital, for the presidency of the Buzău County Council and for 12 other town halls in the country.
