The mayor of Cernavodă, Liviu Negoiţă, was sentenced by the Constanţa Court of Appeal to four years in prison for continuous abuse of office, and the court's decision is final. He was tried for making illegal payments of over 9.3 million lei to a sports club, informs News.ro.

The Constanţa Court of Appeal rejected, on Tuesday, the appeal declared by the mayor of Cernavodă against the decision of the Constanța Court by which he had been sentenced to four years in prison.

“Based on article 421 paragraph 1 point 1 letter b of the Code of Criminal Procedure, reject the appeal declared by the defendant Negoiţă Liviu Cristian against the criminal sentence no. 77/07.02.2025 pronounced by the Constanţa Court in file no. 7594/118/2022, as unfounded. Based on article 275 paragraph 2 of the Code of Criminal Procedure, oblige the defendant Negoiţă Liviu Cristian to pay the sum of 800 lei, as legal expenses advanced by the state”, according to the minutes of the Constanţa Court of Appeal.

The court's decision is final.

In February last year, Liviu Negoiţă was sentenced by the Constanţa Court to four years in prison, but he appealed this sentence.

Liviu Negoiţă was sent to court by DNA prosecutors because, between April 2017 and August 2019, as the mayor of Cernavodă, he allegedly approved, without complying with the legal provisions, a number of 33 ordinances from the City Hall, by which the illegal payment of the total amount of 9,307,790 lei was ordered, for the benefit of a sports club.
