Former finance minister and Harvard professor Larry Summers left OpenAI's board of directors on Wednesday, the company announced. The resignation of the former advisor to Presidents Clinton and Obama is the result of the disclosure of his correspondence with Jeffrey Epstein, among others. about his attempts to seduce a student subordinate to him. Harvard announced an investigation into the matter.

“Larry has decided to resign from the OpenAI Board of Directors and we respect his decision. We appreciate his input and the perspective he has brought to the Board,” the company said in a statement. Summers joined the management board of the company behind ChatemGPT in 2023 as a result of a reshuffle at the company after an unsuccessful attempt to fire its CEO, Sam Altman.

Although no reason for the resignation was given, it took place after the publication of Jeffrey Epstein's documents by Congress revealed e-mails that Summers had exchanged with the billionaire accused of abusing minors.

Summers, who was finance minister in Bill Clinton's administration and head of the National Economic Council in Barack Obama's White House, talked to Epstein, among others. about his attempts to seduce a student for whom he was supposed to be a “mentor” at Harvard. Epstein gave him advice on this matter. Summers himself said in a statement that he was “deeply ashamed of his actions” and announced he would withdraw from public statements.

The economist has remained in his position as a professor at Harvard (he was previously the university's president), but on Wednesday the university announced the initiation of an investigation into “information regarding people employed at Harvard University contained in the recently published documents of Jeffrey Epstein, in order to assess what actions may be justified.”

President Donald Trump ordered the initiation of a federal investigation into Epstein's relationships with Summers, Clinton and other Democratic figures. Attorney General Pam Bondi announced she would take such action.
