The spokesman for the National Prosecutor's Office, Prosecutor Przemysław Nowak, announced on Wednesday that charges had been brought against two Ukrainians suspected of acts of sabotage on the railway. The prosecutor has the material and has prepared a decision to charge two men in the railway sabotage case, but they have not been detained – said Przemysław Nowak, spokesman for the National Prosecutor's Office, on Wednesday. He added that other people were detained but no charges were brought against them.

Two acts of sabotage took place on the Warsaw-Dorohusk route on November 15-17. During the first one, in the town of Mika (Masovian Voivodeship, Garwoliński County), an explosion of an explosive destroyed a railway track. Elsewhere, near the Gołąb railway station (Puławy County, Lublin Voivodeship) on Sunday, a train with 475 passengers had to suddenly brake due to a damaged railway line.
– During the several-dozen-hour-long investigation, we obtained evidence that indicates a very high probability that the direct perpetrators of these acts of sabotage of a terrorist nature were two citizens of Ukraine: Oleksandr K. and Yevheri I. – said prosecutor Nowak.
He noted that the evidence available to the prosecutor's office includes the results of inspections at the scene of the events, both the inspection of the place and the inspection of items, as well as witness statements and monitoring records.
– Based on the evidence obtained during these several hours, the prosecutor signed decisions on Wednesday to bring charges against these two men – said prosecutor Nowak.
On Wednesday, the spokesman for the Minister Coordinator of Special Services, Jacek Dobrzyński, said that several people have already been detained in the case and their interrogation is ongoing.
Requests for arrest for two suspects of acts of sabotage on the railway
Prosecutors submitted two applications to the Warsaw-Mokotów District Court to apply pre-trial detention, said national prosecutor Dariusz Korneluk on TVN24 on Wednesday evening. These are two Ukrainians suspected of acts of sabotage on the railway.
He explained that this is the first step in accordance with the criminal procedure to issue an arrest warrant, and then an international arrest warrant and perhaps an Interpol red notice.
He noted that the perpetrators are wanted by the Polish services not only in Belarus.
– We are looking for them wherever possible to bring them to Polish justice – he added.
The charges against two Ukrainians concern acts of sabotage of a terrorist nature
Nowak emphasized that these allegations concern events such as damage to the tracks using an explosive near the town of Mika in the Masovian Voivodeship in the Garwolin district.
– This thread secured, among others: wire that was most likely used to initiate the explosion. It happened at 20.58 on Saturday, November 15, and the explosion was initiated when a freight train was passing through these tracks – said prosecutor Nowak.
He indicated that the second incident occurred near Puławy, in the town of Gołąb, also on the railway line No. 7 connecting Warsaw East with Dorohusk. The spokesman informed that part of the traction network was damaged and metal elements were installed on the track, which could also have caused the train to derail.
In these charges, the prosecutor's office assumed that these behaviors were terrorist crimes and were intended to seriously intimidate many people, influence public opinion, weaken and destabilize public order and increase the sense of threat in society.
PK spokesman: They are detained in a railway sabotage case, they have not been charged
The prosecutor has the material and has prepared a decision to present charges against these two men. However, it is not possible to carry out procedural activities with them, because they escaped from Poland on the night from Saturday to Sunday and went to Belarus. They are not detained, we have not conducted any procedural activities with them. In very general terms, I can only say: other people are currently detained in these proceedings, Nowak said.
He said that the detained people were not those “whom we have evidence that they were the direct perpetrators of these events.”
He added that the prosecutor did not bring any charges against the detained people. He also emphasized that the investigation has been going on for several dozen hours and the direct perpetrators have already been identified “with a very high probability.”
He also explained that the case of people who fled to Belarus was a qualified charge under three articles – concerning a variety of espionage in the form of acts of sabotage on behalf of foreign intelligence, causing a threat of disaster in land traffic and the use of explosives. This is a crime punishable by life imprisonment.
