A parliamentary draft amendment, which provides that teachers will be paid for unfulfilled overtime hours, has been submitted to the Sejm, Krystyna Szumilas (KO), chairwoman of the Parliamentary Committee on Education and Science, told PAP on Tuesday.

Earlier, on Tuesday before the government meeting, Prime Minister Donald Tusk announced that on the same day the Civic Coalition club would submit a draft amendment to the Teacher's Charter.
– A moment ago, together with MP Dorota Łoboda, we submitted a draft amendment – said Szumilas.
When asked about the content of the project, she said: according to it, the teacher will receive remuneration for overtime hours if they were not due to his fault. She emphasized that he would receive them for his readiness, and not only when, for example, he had a replacement. – This is the most important change that teachers are waiting for – she added.
Overtime hours are hours of classes or lessons assigned to a teacher in excess of the mandatory working hours. They have become famous recently in connection with the amendment to the Teacher's Charter, which came into force at the beginning of the 2025/2026 school year. After the amendment came into force, trade unions argued that a teacher who is at school and is ready to work in accordance with the overtime hours assigned to him does not receive remuneration for them when the class is not at school, e.g. because the class is on a trip. ZNP reported that it received signals from individual schools that teachers or entire teaching staff, as part of professional solidarity, are suspending class outings due to changes in the settlement of overtime hours.
Last week, the Prime Minister announced that if teachers are ready to work at school and classes are not held for reasons beyond their control, teachers will receive remuneration. (PAP)
