Mircea Rednic, the former international, harshly criticized the Romanian national team and recalled a moment spent during match with Bosnia, score 1-3from the penultimate stage of the group in the WC 2026 preliminaries.
The former coach from Standard Liege referred to the conflict between Dennis Man and Andrei Rațiu, which happened on the field in the first half in Zenica.
After a lost ball on the right flank, near the opponent's box, Rațiu nervously gestured to Man, then stopped running to return to the defense, the opponents going on the counterattack. “Puriul” pointed the finger at the right defender because he stopped running.
Rednic also made a comparison with the period spent by Edi Iordănescu on the national team bench, declaring that during the former coach's time there were no such gestures by the players.
Mircea Rednic: “It's not normal for them to argue with each other, that one should stop running, because we are not on the village team”
“I didn't watch the match with Bosnia, I watched the match with Austria. I also told my opinion about the Generation of Soul, they are ok, they were a team with soul, atmosphere, but it was also with a lot of luck.
They have limits. Of course the coach is to blame. I also had some disagreements with nea Mircea on this situation because I said to her: “Be careful, nea Mircea, because here if you lose one or two matches, look how the world jumps on you”. This is Romania, they abolish you and you don't deserve it.
We have to be realistic, we have a limited supply. With Edi it was a different atmosphere, he was closer to them, and more to their age, he managed to create a discipline, first of all. At Edi, I did not see gestures of the kind I saw at the match with Bosnia, at Rațiu and Man.
It is not normal for them to argue with each other, that one should stop running, that we are not with the village team, we are with the national team of Romania! I think that, in the end, Mircea will pull it off,” said Mircea Rednic, according to iamsport.ro.
Romania finished in 3rd place in the preliminaries group, below Austria and Bosnia. Will play in the World Cup play-off by winning the Nations League group.
