The Cluj County Council announced the fact that it has completed the operation of installing the hybrid lawn at the Cluj Arena stadium, the one on which it plays its home matches Cluj University. The announcement comes in the context of the competitive break occasioned by the matches of the national teams.
U Cluj will travel to the field of UTA Arad in the next stage. The new turf has five times the capacity of use compared to the previous one.

“In order to strengthen the structure of the current lawn and to increase the quality of the game, the Cluj County Council decided to implement a technical solution to hybridize the natural grass surface.
Practically, for a week, an extensive “sewing” action of some synthetic fibers was carried out in the structure of the current lawn, at a depth of 14.5 cm in the ground, respectively two cm on the surface.
The technique, executed in a similar way to that used in the case of the world's great stadiums, guarantees a lawn with increased resistance to traffic, by taking over, by the synthetic fibers, the pressure exerted on the natural fibers. Other advantages include:
-
better surface stability and durability, up to 15 years;
-
improved water drainage system,
-
healthier natural grass growth, respectively
-
a faster regeneration of the lawn, with the maintenance of the green color over an extended period.
Also, the use of a hybrid lawn means for the Cluj County Council lower maintenance costs in the long term, including the amortization of the initial investment, in the amount of over 1.5 million lei, fully borne from the Cluj County's own budget“, the Cluj County Council transmits, through a press release.
Cluj Arena is one of the largest stadiums in Romania, with a capacity of 30,335 seats.
The first match scheduled at Cluj Arena after the installation of the new lawn will take place on December 1, when the team coached by Cristiano Bergodi will face Craiova University.
I am extremely happy that we managed to create a five-star sports infrastructure in Cluj, which we can be proud of both in the country and abroad. The new turf looks very good and is fully prepared to be used at the highest level all year round, including the cold season.
Moreover, it has a usage capacity up to five times higher compared to the previous lawn, i.e. more than 1,000 hours of actual use.
Therefore, we are waiting with great interest for the first official match scheduled on the new surface, even on Romania's National Day, to enjoy both the turf and the football spectacle.
