Manchester United legend Eric Cantona has launched a scathing attack on Red Devils owner Sir Jim Ratcliffe, expressing his disappointment with the way the club is being run and revealing the frosty relationship between them.
The former French star pointed out that he proposed to help the English club, but was struck by the indifference of the new owner.
Eric Cantona, bring to the management of Manchester United: “They destroyed the beautiful attacking style of football”
“I have a lot of plans, but I thought that for two or three years I could put them aside and try to give something to this club that gave me everything. But Ratcliffe didn't seem interested. I did everything I had to, so I don't have any regrets. I tried as much as I could,” said Eric Cantona, according to goal.com.
The former French footballer did not fail to criticize the team's playing identity and pointed out that the new owners did not respect the legacy of Sir Alex Ferguson, the legendary manager of Manchester United.
“Sir Alex Ferguson created a beautiful style of attacking football, which the new owners should have capitalized on. Instead, they destroyed it,” the Frenchman said, according to the quoted source.
The atmosphere in the stadium is different, unfortunately. I went to Old Trafford last season for the Manchester City game and I thought it was very quiet. United fans prefer going to away games to be with real fans rather than being surrounded by people who come from different parts of the world just to go to the club's gift shop.
